FRSC Don come out talk say, Ocholi’s driver no get license.

Ministers during a tribute session for the late Minister of State for Labour and Employment James Ocholi, at the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja yesterday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) told the Federal Executive yesterday in Abuja that its investigation had shown that Taiwo James Elegbede, the driver of late Minister of State for Labour and Employment James Ocholi, had no driving licence.
FRSC Corps Marshall Boboye Oyeyemi was presenting the interim report of the investigation into the crash that killed the minister, his wife and son along the Kaduna-Abuja Road on Sunday.

Oyeyemi said there was no record of the driver’s licence in national data base.
“Information gathered revealed that the driver was actually moving at excess of the stipulated speed when he had a tyre burst. The crashed vehicle driver was too fast and he slammed on his brake so hard. These two factors materially contributed to the inability of the driver to maintain control when the left rear tyre burst.
“Skid marks and grooves found on the westbound shoulder made by the Lexus LX570 for about 15 metres and 9.3 metres respectively before it began somersaulting severely and the ejection of the minister and his son showed clearly that the travelling speed of the Lexus LX570 presented unsafe consequences in the event of certain road risk that may have occurred,” Oyeyemi said.
He also said that the ejection of the minister and his son who occupied the rear seat of the ill-fated vehicle confirmed “the fact that their rear seat belts were not in use.”
According to him, “The Federal Road Safety Corps Investigation Team (FIT) determines that the probable cause of the crash was the driver’s failure to maintain directional control of his vehicle when the rear left tyre burst occurred.”
The FRSC chief also said that all ministries, departments and agencies’ (MDAs) cars were not properly registered and had no road worthiness.
He said the corps recommended, among other things, that President Buhari should lead the campaign on compliance with speed limits, starting with installation of speed limit devises in commercial vehicles.  He said the corps also recommended the certification and re-certification of convoy drivers at intervals of two years of issuance of convoy driver’s licence.
